Omi beef

Omi beef is the black beef in Japan which has more than 400 years of history. Starting at the beginning of EDO period, when the eating of animal was forbidden. Omi prefecture is the place with the most suitable conditions for raising Japanese black-haired cows. Since then, Omi cows have become a rare food to serve for the purpose of curing diseases for kings.

Currently, along with Kobe beef (130-year history), Matsuzaka beef (100-year history), Omi beef is ranked as one of the three best quality, stable and delicious beef in Japan.

Omi beef is raised in Shiga prefecture (former name: Omi prefecture), near the ancient capital Kyoto, Japan, the land with the largest freshwater lake in Japan, named Biwa. The clean lake water is an ideal habitat for hundreds of animals.

Why has Omi beef become one of the 3 most famous beef brands in Japan?
